Widowed doctor Gabbie and her son Travis move into the abandoned Gracey Manor, which they hope to turn into a bed and breakfast, only to discover the mansion is infested with ghosts. Father Kent, an exorcist helping Gabbie, hires Ben to photograph Gracey Manor's ghosts.

In the film, a man named Alistair Crump (Jared Leto) is behind all the hauntings and mysterious deaths. He killed party guests and servants alike in his own mansion, Crump Manor, until the staff revolted and chopped his head off. Crump's ghost shows up in Master Gracey's mansion after Leota accidentally summons him.

“Haunted Mansion,” rated PG-13 for “some thematic elements and scary action,” is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name.

It has nonstop sexual content, including tons of crude innuendo and some nudity (female breasts and a male bottom). There are also jokes about racism and bodily functions and even a brief joke about priests and little boys.

While much of the mansion's interiors were created on soundstages, exterior shots of the mansion feature the stunning Garden District home known as The Buckner Mansion, which is located at 1410 Jackson Avenue.

Is Haunted Mansion Scary Disney? ›

The Haunted Mansion is dark and contains some mildly frightening scenes, but there is no gore. The ghostly residents are friendly and the ride is slow-moving.

The Haunted Mansion closed for refurbishment on January 22, 2024, while the Grim Grinning Ghosts materialize an expanded queue and a new retail shop.
